The American Civil War was fought between the Confederacy and the Union. All of the battles took place in the United States over slavery and secession disagreements. The fighting began on Friday, April 12, 1861, and ended on Tuesday, May 9, 1865. Abraham Lincoln was president during this war and fought to keep the southern states from seceding from the Union.
